Ways of SeeingArt
This art project deals with the duality of photographic recordings that began with an obsession with confirmation. At first, I took pictures of whether the door was closed or off, so that I had peace of mind. But over time, the pictures became evidence of anxiety-inducing. I organized and visualized these contradictory flows of emotions in an archive form. The work of books is designed to make the pages get thicker, heavier, and feel anxious physically as time goes by. Each photo records the entrances to the representative spaces I often visit, such as my room, my grandfather's house, and the studio. The initial photos are clear, but as the image goes up, they become more broken and distorted, making it impossible to check. This shows that records can be a prison where anxiety is stored and repeated rather than a means to protect me. Repeated images, blurry colors, and collapsed forms reveal the relationship between memory and distrust. This work is an archiving experiment on how actions for stability accumulate anxiety.
